Jean-Marc Garel spoils us with a collection of jewellery featuring diamonds that appear to have serendipitously slipped into their settings. Slinking up a necklace, swaying from an earring or swinging from a circular pendant, they give the impression of being fluid and mobile. To create this effect, Garel departs from traditional diamond settings in which the stones are the clear centrepiece of a jewellery item. Instead of setting stones into a band, he shapes a ring band around its stones, creating a sense of unity and effortless integration.
Playful and slightly reminiscent of "snakes and ladders", Garel’s "Graphique" collection of jewellery and watches consists of small diamonds wedged into the corners of a labyrinth shaped setting. Also of note is the "Tableau" collection, in which quartz is cut to look like ice cubes.
Whatever the theme of Garel’s latest collection, his creations are always fetching and never stagnant.
